Preferred Suppressors

for the 11" Sig Spear in 5.56

There are lots of 5.56 suppressors that will work on an 11" Spear LT but there are some that we prefer more than others. Sig Sauer and Surefire make suppressors that reduce sound levels and flash signature while keeping gas out of your face. 

 

The Sig Sauer SLX556-QD and SLX556C-QD are flow-through suppressors that are designed with a priority on minimizing gas blow back through the ejection port into your face. The SLX556C-QD is the shorter version of the SLX556-QD. The longer version will reduce sound more than the shorter version, at the cost of a little longer length. I personally like the shorter one because the overall barrel length of the Spear LT ends up being about 16" with the suppressor on. (11" + 5.2" = 16.2") And both mount to the muzzle device that comes on the Spear LT from Sig.

 

Surefire put a lot of testing into their SB2 line of battle proven SOCOM quick attach suppressors to optimize them for short barrel 5.56 applications. They mount to the barrel using a Surefire SOCOM muzzle brake or flash hider.

Preferred Stocks

for the 11" Sig Spear in 5.56

The 11" 5.56 Spear LT is compact enough to easily be concealed or stowed in compact packaging. For this reason we prefer to use a slim, minimlistic, stock like the JMAC Skeletonized Folding Stock. It hugs the gun close when folded, adding minimal thickness to the space it takes up in a bag or compartment. 

 

The downside of the JMAC stock is that there is not much surface for your cheek. If surface area against the cheek is important to your repeatability, then we recommend the JMAC Skeletonized Folding Buffer Tube Stock Adapter. It allows you to add your favorite butt stock. For this application we prefer the Magpul SL-K because it provides adequate surface area for the cheek, but is still slim enough to allow the stock to fully fold against the gun.

 

Note: Adding a stock to a pistol converts its status from a pistol to an SBR. So a Form1 Tax stamp will need to be applied for and approved by the ATF for compliance before installing. The tax stamp process has been simplified recently, and we can help you if you are looking to go this route.

Preferred Optic Setup #1

for the 11" Sig Spear in 5.56

The 11" Spear LT in 5.56 is a special model because it's compact size can be effective in close quarters without sacrificing a noticeable amount of effectiveness at 300 yards. For that reason, I often prefer using the EOTECH EXPS3-0 1x holographic optic on a Unity Riser to put it in a comfortable and natural position for my neck. And an EOTECH G33 3x magnifier on a Unity Flip Up mount that lets me tuck it down out of the way when I dont need magnification.

 

EOTECH does make a "switch to side" mount for their magnifier that allows you to swing the optic out of the way to where it will hang out off the right side of the gun when not in use, but I don't like having the magnifier hanging out there when not in use, so I prefer the Unity mount that stows it down beneath the line of sight of the optic, without sticking otu any further off of the gun. 

 

The EOTECH circle dot reticle is effective inside of 7 yards, and out past 300 yards. So this combo ends up feeling pretty perfect for most requirements.

Preferred Optic Setup #2

for the 11" Sig Spear in 5.56

If you are looking for more magnification either for accuracy and precision at further distances, or a closer view for target identification, the Sig Tango6T 1-6x low power variable optic is a great option. It has 556 bullet drop marks for longer shots, but the iluminated center reticle is usable on target for anything inside of 400 yards. 

 

To make quick transitions to close targets easier and quicker, we mount a Sig Romo1Pro 1x red dot on a Sig 45 degree canted mount. A small rotation of the gun allows the gun to be manipulated quickly between target transitions without feeling like you are hunting with the scope or dialing the magnification back.

 

This setup on an 11" suppressed 5.56 makes for a very flexible combination in a package that can be effective up close and at distance.

Preferred Lights

for the 11" Sig Spear in 5.56

A weapon light is something you wont truely appreciate until you find yourself holding a gun in the dark and not being able to see. That feeling will make you put a light on every gun you own. There are two lights we like to use for the Spear LT and both are made by Surefire. The M340C is a single battery light that outputs 500 lumens, and the M640U is a double battery light that outputs 1000 lumens. 

 

These models come with an M-LOK swivel mount that allows you to rotate the light against the hand guard, where it takes up the least outward space on the gun making it easier to point the gun through openings in cover and reducing snag opportunities.

 

We also use a dual function pressure switch from Surefire that allows for constant on/off as well as momentary on while pressed and held. This allows for momentary use of the light only when needed, by pressing with your thumb on top of the rail in a natural c-clamp position.

 

Surefire has long been known for making some of the most robust and dependable lights on the market. We use them on our own guns, and we feel safe recommending them to you.

Preferred Controls

for the 11" Sig Spear in 5.56

The factory charging handle that comes on the 11" 5.56 Spear LT has fairly small tabs on the side. They work, but if you are used to larger tabs, they will feel too small. Especially if you are using a magnifier or low power variable scope that sits above the charging handle. We prefer the Radian Raptor LT charging handle designed for the MCX because it's impossible to miss, even after fumbling a reload under pressure.

 

The Radian Talon safety selector switch feels better in the hand than the factory one, it can be configured for a 45degree throw instead of 90degree, and it comes in Tan!

 

If you are looking for a lighter trigger, we prefer the Timney DH3 trigger that comes in the Sig M400 DH3. It has a light break out of the box, but it is also adjustable so you can fine tune it to your preference. We love this trigger for fast shooting of multiple shots on target at the same time. Warning, this is a very light trigger, and very light triggers are not right for everyone. 

 

If you prefer a fully rotated wrist C-Clamp grip on the hand guard with your support hand like you are aiming a flashlight ahead of you, you will probably prefer the Arisaka finger indexer instead of a vertical grip. If you prefer to have the wrist of your support hand at more of an angle, you will probably prefer using a Sig Sauer vertical grip or the Magpul MVG as a hand stop that you can wedge your hand up into. (Note, the addition of a vertical grip turns an AR pistol into an SBR. So a form 1 stamp will be required from the ATF)
